The DoCUp project partners worked jointly on the development of DoCUp Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), an e-learning platform version of the updated training curriculum for domestic care workers developed by the Consortium. The time has come to pilot it: a total of 60 participants, including working or job-seeking domestic care workers and adult educators/trainers from each partner country, will be invited during the month of October to attend and complete the DoCUp e-learning course. The aim is to gather feedback to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the multilingual DoCUp MOOC and make improvements to launch it freely and free of charge to a wider audience.
The DoCUp consortium is delighted to introduce the pilot launch of the DoCUp Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), scheduled for October 2023 in all partner countries. However, before we delve into the details, let’s start with the basics: What exactly is a MOOC, and what does the DoCUp MOOC encompass?
A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is an online course aimed at large-scale interactive participation and open access via web. MOOCs, a recent development in distance learning, offer not only traditional learning materials such as videos, readings, case studies, quizzes but also real opportunities to build educational and learning communities.
In particular, the DoCUp MOOC, hosted on the THINKIFIC online learning platform, is a self-directed online course that serves as a broad access delivery method for the DoCUp training curriculum. It is designed to reflect the structure of the multilingual curriculum developed by the Consortium, organised into 6 learning units and 56 lessons, including training and evaluation materials in the online form. The DoCUp MOOC is mainly based on visual materials such as presentations, videos, graphics and all textual descriptions are accompanied by visual aids to facilitate learners’ understanding. However, it also integrates additional pedagogical resources such as video units and hands-on exercises that support self-assessment and collaboration mechanisms, with the aim of providing an optimal personalised and flexible learning experience with increased opportunities for interactivity.
The DoCUp MOOC piloting, planned for October 2023, will involve 60 participants from Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece and Sweden among working or job-seeking domestic care workers and adult educators/trainers. Participants’ contribution will be fundamental to evaluate the educational value of the e-learning materials and the MOOC’s functionality, to identify its weaknesses, areas of strengths and opportunities for improvement. Once the piloting and adjustment phase is over, the DoCUp MOOC will be available for free and open access directly from the project website in English, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Greek and Swedish.
